North Cornwall District Council gave the company permission to build
a petrol station beside the store back in 2007, but it was delayed by questions
over road safety and Tesco's financial contribution to highway works.
Since then Tesco has submitted several applications at alternative
sites.
On Thursday the latest proposals were approved by Cornwall Council's
east sub-area planning committee. The new plans, including six fuel pumps, a
tanker filling point, a kiosk and jet wash, are for a site at the top of West
Hill next to the new Falcon hotel and restaurant, and also include a new
roundabout.
In the past Wadebridge has had five petrol stations.
Today only one remains, Tregoning, just a few hundred yards up the
road from Tesco's proposed site.
Various people I’ve spoken to are encouraged by the decision as they
see choice and competition as a positive thing.
With instability on the middle east fuel prices are set to soar, and
a monopoly on petrol could be a strangle hold on residents of Wadebridge.
What do you think about competition and a new petrol station in
Wadebridge?

I refuse to look at the cost of petrol at the moment, it will just depress me, but a good bit of healthy competition is always good, especially when prices are going up as much as they are at the moment.

ReportI've never been a fan of Tesco's petrol. It's not 'petrolly' enough. I find I get much better fuel economy from other places. Am I the only one?

ReportIts really very odd, that two stations 200 yards apart can have a discrepancy of anywhere between 2-7p a litre. Who on earth is buying the more expensive one?! That aside, bet you it reaches £1.50 by 2012 (a matter that the John Cusack film should have *really* been focussing on)
