Ofsted has published it’s report following a recent inspection of Wadebridge CP School. In response to Ofsted’s report, which graded the school as ‘Satisfactory’, a downward shift from the last two inspection reports that graded the school as ‘Good’, Headmaster Geoff Leend said, “I would be less than honest if, after two consecutive ‘Good’ Ofsted reports, I wasn’t disappointed to receive a report that is essentially satisfactory…”

The report states “Teaching quality is inconsistent across the school”

The report also states “Those pupils with special educational needs and/or difficulties are effectively assessed, using outside expertise where required, and are well supported in classes. All pupils who attend it greatly benefit from the good care in the afterschool club.”

The effectiveness of leadership and management in embedding ambition and driving improvement was graded as satisfactory.

There are four possible grades. 1 outstanding, 2 good, 3 satisfactory, 4 inadequate.

The inspection judgement means a satisfactory school is providing adequately for its pupils.

In Lead inspector Ronald Hall’s letter to pupils he said, “You are being successfully helped to grow up as sensible, healthy, considerate young

people who behave well. Staff take very good care of you and make sure you are treated fairly. Your school is a satisfactory school. This means that there are lots of things that it does well but there are some things that it could do better. In order to improve, the school needs to make sure you all do as well as you can and particularly those of you who often find work easy. To do this, we have asked that staff make sure that they use the information they have on your learning and what

each of you needs to do next to plan challenging lessons and keep you learning rapidly. Also, we have asked that the leaders of your school focus more consistently on how well you have done when they plan improvements.”

I suppose there needs to be some kind of system to judge how schools are doing but I can't help but think Ofsted reports, just like those ridiculous SATS tests, just seem to do a complete disservice to the staff and only give a snapshot or what goes on at a school.

I bet every member of staff at the school are gutted. The problem with a 'satisfactory' ofsted report is that everybody percieves it to be "jut a bit better than rubbish". Best of luck to them for next time.
