Three people hospitalised by CO2 poisoning

Three people were taken to hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning after the deadly gas leaked from a wood burner stove at a house in Cornwall.
Firefighters were called to the village of St Mabyn, near Wadebridge, North Cornwall after a detector went off warning the toxic fumes were present.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property at Kelly Park, off Station Road, and used their own detectors to take readings of the levels of gas present.
One fire engine from Wadebridge attended the scene on Friday at around 10.40pm along with a specialist hazardous materials officer.
The three people reported symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning that can include headache, nausea, dizziness, vomiting and confusion.
Fire crews gave one person oxygen until paramedics arrived and treated all three before they went to hospital to be checked. The house was then ventilated before crews from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service left the scene.
Around 50 people a year die after accidentally breathing in the gas in England and Wales, while around 4,000 are diagnosed with suffering from poisoning.

ReportI am so glad that lives were saved because of an audible CO detector. My daughter died two years ago this week of Carbon Monoxide poisoning - she had been married for two months and six days. We are now trying to raise awareness of CO www.katiehaines.com and would urge everyone to not only have an audible detector but to make sure that boilers, gas cookers and sold fuel burners are regularly serviced. If you have an attached property, make sure they have a detector also. I would not like anyone to suffer such a loss.
