On Sunday April 10th there is an opportunity for a first look at the new

generation of electric car. The Mitsubishi i-MiEV ('eye-meev') will be

brought to Wadebridge town centre by Cornish electric vehicle experts

Eco-drive.

Matt Trevaskis from Eco-drive and members of WREN will be

available to discuss what the new breed of electric car can offer. As

one of the few all-electric cars on the market this year, the i-MiEV is a

taste of the near future in electric motoring and it will be possible

to book a short test drive. Matt said "I wanted to bring the i-MiEV to

Wadebridge because it fits with the ambition and vision that WREN have

for a renewable energy-based future for the town."

"The range between recharges is in the order of 70-90 miles depending on

driving style and use of heating/air-conditioning. It can recharge in

as little as 30 minutes from one of a number of quick chargers which we

hope to see deployed around Cornwall in coming months."

"WREN is delighted that Matt has chosen to bring the car to Wadebridge.

As part of the WREN programme we are seeking to establish Wadebridge as

an area to explore the extent to which people can accommodate electric

transport in their everyday lives. Also things are moving fast with the

WREN project, so the i-MiEV demonstration is a chance to discuss

progress as well as seeing the car" said Stephen Frankel, Convenor of

the WREN steering group.

The car will be based outside the Co-op coffee shop in the centre of Wadebridge from 10am to 4pm.

Sounds interesting. Electric cars are obviously the future but I'm not sure the technology is completely there yet. I still fancy a test drive though!
