The evening is to recognise the excellent work undertaken by volunteers throughout local communities. DaccWa also recognises the important work partners play in the Police organisation and the contribution community officers make toward making their communities a safer place to live and work.
Wadebridge was recognised at these awards. The beat managers for the areas of the sector were each awarded community awards as were the Police Community Support Officers.
2 Nhw Co-Ordinators were recognised for their valuable contributions toward the community.
Julie Lewins who runs the Burlawn scheme and Christine Gregory from St.Kew Highway were awarded certificates for being 2 of the 6 finalists in the category of Co Ordinator of the Year.
Julie then went on to collect the award for Co Ordinator of the year-a wonderful achievement.
Burlawn NHW scheme was also in the category of Scheme of the Year with Julie and Ann Smith receiving certificates on behalf of the scheme for reaching the final groups.
Devon and Cornwall remains among the safest places in the country with new figures showing a 12 per cent reduction in recorded crime.
Home Office figures released in October show Devon and Cornwall to be the 4th safest force in England and Wales, with 54 crimes per 1,000 people over a 12 month period to June 2010.
Key areas of improvement include:-
11 per cent reduction in robbery
13 per cent reduction in burglary
12 per cent fall in theft
5 per cent reduction in violence against the person
Vehicle crime and criminal damage have seen a reduction of 19 per cent.
The force also stands 2nd in England and Wales for public satisfaction.
