A Wadebridge councillor tells constituents he has not resigned from his position with Cornwall Council.

Scott Mann, 33, told the Cornish Guardian that he has been approached by numerous people concerned that he has given up his position as councillor for Wadebridge West, to which he was elected two years ago.

The confusion has come after Mr Mann stepped down from his position on Wadebridge Town Council.

He is reported to have said: "I would like to point out that I have resigned from Wadebridge Town Council and not Cornwall Council.

"My work on Cornwall Council amounts to 25-plus hours a week and it has taken me two years to realise that I can't be on everything. I believe I can best serve Wadebridge residents by focusing my efforts where I can have more influence. Over the next two years I can concentrate on the financial management of Cornwall Council, setting council tax, getting a robust planning document that meets the need of Wadebridge residents, delivering local housing and responding to concerns over local issues."

Mr Mann, who has been a postman in the town for more than 13 years, says that his recent appointment as deputy leader of the Conservative group will add to his ability to deliver on important issues.

He added: "It was with a great deal of sorrow that I said goodbye to the town council."

Easy mistake to make. I always get confused between town councillors and county councillors.
