Organisers of the county's premier folk music festival held in Wadebridge for the past 40 years are promising an international feel to the three-day event this year.

Headline acts are currently being booked, and those announced so far include Linde Nijland and Bert Ridderbos from Holland, Senegal's Amadou Diagne, Tinderbox from Ireland and Scotland's Wendy Arrowsmith.

The event has reverted to being known as the Cornwall Folk Festival and has been moved to the first weekend in August in order not to clash with the Bude Jazz Festival and other music events which occur on the bank holiday weekend at the end of the month.

Mike Walford, one of the organisers, said as well as acts from far and wide, Cornish musicians would be given the exposure they richly deserved.

"Cornwall is blessed with a terrific range of talent of all ages and we are going to highlight them as much as possible,'' said Mr Walford.

"Cornwall Folk Festival is now also run solely by volunteers, including myself as a non-profitmaking community account, where any profits will be ploughed back into future events.

We have some good sponsors to back us up, yet more sponsors are needed and will be heartily welcomed as we aim to make us become one of the major, international folk festivals in the future.

Promoting Cornwall is our main aim so any corporate businesses who wish to get involved should give me a ring on 01637 880604.''
